Agnes Bostic Cooper was born Friday, October 1, 1943 in New Madrid, Missouri to the late Reverend L.B. Bostic and Pearlean King Bostic. She was one of eight children born to this union.
Agnes was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Darren Horrell but was appointed as a Church Mother under Pastor Nathan Johnson. Agnes loved people but most importantly, she loved God. She was baptized at an early age. She served God and his people until he came and took her to be with Him.
Agnes worked hard to care for her children. She worked many years for the late Leslie and Alice Fox.
She is affectionately known by many as Granny. Everyone that knows Granny remembers that she has always talked to them about the Lord and being kind to people even if you don't want to. Even more so if that person has already treated you badly. She'd always say, "Give it to God and let him handle it".
Agnes instilled in her children and grandchildren the importance of prayer. No matter what's going on or what has happened, she'd always say, "Pray about it".
Agnes loved people and was a very giving person. When she was able she would visit people. When she couldn't do that anymore, her passion was to call and send cards. She'd always say, "It's to just let someone know that you're thinking about them".
Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Beverly June Cooper, her sisters, Bessie Bostic, Marjorie Clark, Ella Jackson, Doris Dukes and Lady Bostic, one brother, Eddie Bostic, one step daughter, Crystal Cooper, two grandsons, Travis Stanback, Jr. and Thomas Murray, Jr., and a nephew that was always there for her, Ronnie Bostic.
She leaves to cherish her memory one sister, Bernice Carthell of St. Louis, Missouri, her children, one son, Michael Cooper of St. Louis, Missouri, three daughters, Felicia Bostic of Sikeston, Missouri, Stephanie Cooper of Charleston, Missouri, and Vanita Cooper of Atlanta, Georgia, nine grandchildren, LaShieka Hollis, Curtisha Kent, Maurice Kent, Michael Kent, Phylesha Kent, Mykeea Cooper, Sayvionna Dixon, Malique Dixon, and Pauvier Freeman, five great grandchildren, Travias Hollis, Joe Alexander, Jr., Tishon Cleveland, Maliyah Dixon, and Quasiir Bell, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Agnes will be greatly missed by her family, special friends, Charla and Charlie Clark, Jr., and Clementine Henry who cared for her for over 20 years, and the entire Charleston community.
On Sunday, May 18, 2025 Agnes was called home to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 81 years, seven months, and 17 days. Agnes fought a good fight, she has finished her course and she definitely kept the faith. So henceforth there's a crown of righteousness which the Lord shall give her at that day.
Friends may call Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 12:00 noon until the funeral hour of 1:00 P.M. at Opportunity Church of God in Christ in Charleston with Apostle Antonio Motton officiating.
