Augustus Glass

August 17, 1939 — April 21, 2025

Augustus Ceasar Glass departed this life April 21, 2025, at Methodist North Hospital in Memphis, TN at the age of 85. Augustus, fondly known as   C-Boy or Gus, was born August 17, 1939, in Victoria, AR, to the late Louis Clarence Glass and Lillian Harber Glass. Ceasar, as his mother called him, grew up in LaForge, MO. He went to school in the New Madrid County district and took high school courses in Tennessee. On August 29, 1958, in New Madrid he married Verneda Rush, to this union three children were born.

Years later, C. Boy moved to Chicago, IL, where he worked at Sears Roebuck, later relocating to Decatur, IL, where he lived for over 30 years During his time in Decatur, he was employed by Wagner Steel and became a member of the cross-country Knight Rider’s motorcycle club. In 1977, he married Oreatha Ragland.

In 1999, Gus left Decatur with his new wife Mae Rose and moved to Jackson, TN and worked at Jackson Country Club. In 2006, he relocated to Memphis, TN, where he lived until he departed this life. Aside from watching his favorite sport wrestling, he enjoyed watching Westerns, CNN, and the local news with his special friend Vera Anderson. Before the Covid pandemic, Gus began attending church and continued virtual, post Covid.

Augustus leaves to mourn his life, two sisters: Pearl Allen and Anne Anthony. Eleven children: Rosalind Glass-Graham Mason (Johnnie), Rosie Lee Johnson Kirby (Rick), Derrick “Augustus” Glass, Phylana Rene’ Kellum Johnson, Gregory Louis Glass, Maurice Hicks, Raja Muhammad, Anthony Joyner, Shawn Dampeer, Karen Joyner, and Tykyna Eubanks. Stepsons: John Shipp and Tony Eubanks; Godson Michael Anderson; 21 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren; best friend and Godbrother Franklin Roosevelt Dotson, like-a-brother Verdie Dotson, a solid friend Johnny Mann; a host of nieces/great nieces, nephews/great-nephews, cousins Duke Glass, William Albert Bell other cousins and a multitude of friends and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Lillian Harber Glass; two grandchildren: Trevlan Rickelle Glass and Venedra "Nique" Graham; two brothers: Earl and Louis Glass, Jr.; and two sisters: Linetta Hatcher and Lillian Glass Hunter.

He was intentional about calling family and friends and praying for others. From the pit to the palace, reflections of the life of our dad, Gus!

Friends may call Saturday, May 10, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. until the funeral hour of 12:00 noon at Mt. Olive Baptist Church located at 315 Missouri St. in New Madrid, Missouri.
