Dirrick Adams was born on April 16, 1972, in Sikeston, Missouri, to Mose Chapman and Alice Adams Ray and Joe Ray, Jr. Dirrick was one of thirteen siblings, seven boys and six girls.

Dirrick accepted Christ at a young age under the leadership of Elder Norris T. Pullen of Bell City, Missouri Church of God in Christ, where he played the drums and sang in the youth choir. One of his greatest joys was leading his favorite song Everybody Ought To Praise His Name, and in that song a line that reflected his heart was, “If a robin can say thank you, you can do it too.”

In his walk through life, Dirrick attended many different churches. He loved Bible study and Sunday school.

Dirrick loved basketball and in his younger days he loved his animals —you never knew what you might see him with when it came to animals.

He was a graduate of Scott County Central, Route One, Sikeston, Missouri 63801. After graduation, Dirrick joined the Navy for four years. He served in the United States Navy from 1991 to 1995. After the Navy, Dirrick went to work for Burlington Northern Railroad. On the train, Dirrick had many jobs: he drove the train and also laid track. He worked for 17 years and later retired.

Dirrick loved his children in his very last breath. He showed up not just physically, but emotionally, spiritually, and wholeheartedly. Dirrick was a loving dad, uncle, loving brother, and loving friend.

Dirrick passed away peacefully at his home on March 29, 2026 at the age of 53 years, 11 months and 13 days.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children: Jasmine (Bryce) Meese, Derrick Adams Jr., Alexis Adams, Micah Adams, and Alysa Adams; and his grandchildren, Jack Meese, Zyion Adams, Sebastian Smith and Ma’lailynn Wigfall.

His siblings: Melvin (Glenda) Jones of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; David (Corean) Adams, Ronnie Adams, and Elder Mark Jones all of Sikeston, Missouri; Robert (Edna) Adams and Percy (Karen) Adams both from Marion, Indiana; Marilyn Jones, Beverly (Kem) Peet, Sherry (Earl) Brown, Tracy (Dwayne) Booker all of Sikeston; Clara (Anthony) Price of Arizona; and Stacy (Ronald) Woodson of Colorado Springs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alice Adams Ray and Joe Ray, his uncle, Tommy Adams of Chicago, Illinois, and his grandmother, Clara Adams, who he loved dearly.

Dirrick leaves to cherish his memories his aunts, Alma Adams and Mattie Richardson, along with a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
