Larry Cornell Long was born on September 9, 1954, to Cornell and Ruthie Mae (Treadwell) Long.
He was the firstborn of Cornell and Ruth Mae Long and the firstborn grandson of Joe and Hattie Treadwell.
He departed this life on June 7, 2026, at his home, surrounded by loved ones.
He accepted Jesus Christ at an early age, but it was during the summer of 2025 that he reaffirmed his life in Christ, under the leadership of Assistant Pastor Dee Moore. His heartfelt words echo: "I'm saved for real."
Larry joined the Army in 1974 and served until 1978. He made friends and cherished memories. Additionally, he served as Alderman for the city of Lilbourn.
Larry was a Lifetime Member of the New Madrid County Memorial VFW Post 7183, which he joined in May of 2009. Over the course of 17 years, he held various leadership positions while serving other veterans and the community. He was highly respected and loved by his comrades and auxiliary members. Larry served as Jr. Vice Commander.
He married Regina Long, whom he loved and cherished until his passing. Together, they had three daughters.
Larry enjoyed being a husband, father, and grandpa. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his motorcycle, gardening, and listening to music. Most of all, He enjoyed spending time with all his family and friends.
He joins his father, mother, and brother Leonard, who preceded him in passing. He is survived by his wife, Regina; daughters, Candice, Shira, and Monica (Jeremy). He also leaves behind four grandchildren: Amya, Kaylee, Josiah, and Julian. His family includes four brothers: Timothy (Renae), Maurice Long, Terry (Lorraine) Long, Richard (Erika) Long, and two sisters: Betty (Hubert) Pratcher and Andrea (Neal) Young, along with his aunt Jeraline. A loving host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends cherish his memory.
His kindness and legacy live on in all of us—through lessons, laughter, jokes, comforting pats, hugs, heartfelt conversations, dancing, acts of kindness, nights in the garage, BBQ hangouts, acts of protection, and unconditional love.
From his own words:
"I’ve always believed in God—just look around. I didn't want to do what he wanted me to do, but now I am saved for real! Praise God! There is a God in heaven. There is only one God. There is only one way in, only one way out. I've seen many things in life. God is good to us all. God, please help everyone."
His favorite scripture: John 14:2-3 KJV
"In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."
