Liza Lofton

Liza Mae Lofton, aged 91, passed away peacefully on October 12th, 2025 at her daughter’s home in Huntsville, AL, after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born on May 13, 1934 to James and Mary Farr in Morehouse, Missouri alongside her fraternal twin sister Lila Mae. They were 2 of 16, and the only girls in the family.

Liza will be remembered for her love of caring for children, watching her beloved wrestling, dipping her Bitter Garrett snuff, dressing to the nines at every function she attended, and being the family and neighborhood beautician. She enjoyed attending high school basketball games, especially to watch the girls’ teams. Ms. Liza will probably be most remembered in the community and family, her unwavering commitment to chopping cotton. As a way for many to make money during the summer, she would head up many jobs during her prime years.

Ms. Lofton professed Christ at an early age. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Howardville, MO, where during her tenure, she participated in Sunday school and encouraging young people to attend church. Nightly, without fail, even during the later stages of her disease, she would recite the Lord’s Prayer and fervently ask God to watch over and keep all her family.

Liza Mae was preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Betty Jean Webster, and her youngest son, Anthony Quinn Lofton, her parents, James and Mary Farr, her twin sister, Lila Mae Chrisp Alford, her brothers, Moses, John Calvin, Clem, James Jr., Clifton and Glen Farr, her son in law, Ralph Towns, several sisters in law, brothers in law, nephews, and nieces. She is survived by her children, Catherine L. Towns, Patricia A. Lofton, and Samuel F. Lofton of Memphis, TN, Phillip (Loria) Lofton and Jeffery Lofton of Houston, TX, and Liza Maria Lofton of Huntsville, AL, her grandchildren, Ira Webster, Jr, Patrick D. Lofton, Xaviera Q. Toussaint, Jasmine N. Lofton, Arnekia Lofton, DeMaria V. Minner, Damian R. Gipson, and Dmitry A. Hunter, her great-grandchildren, Chandler, Kaleb, Royal, Elias and 3 more, her brothers, Clennon Farr, Clayton (Bessie) Farr, Luther Farr, Floyd (Lillie) Farr, Larry G. Farr, W.C. Farr, Richard Farr, and Albert Farr and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was especially close to her sister-in-law, Almarie Farr.

Friends are invited Saturday, October 18, 2025 from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. for a visitation at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Lilbourn, Missouri. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, October 19, 2025 at 11:00 A.M., with Ms. Lofton laying in repose from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., also at Pilgrim Rest with Pastor Bennie Chrisp of New Covenant Ministries COGIC in Kennett, Missouri officiating. Internment will immediately follow in Simmons Park Cemetery in Catron, Missouri with the Williams Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
