Melvin (Wayne) Burgess was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, family leader, and friend. Melvin transitioned from this life on January 24th, 2026 surrounded by love. He was born June 18, 1967 to William (Po T.) McKinney and Bertha M. Burgess in New Madrid County, Missouri.
Melvin was a man known for his strength, quiet wisdom, and deep love for his family. He believed in taking care of those he loved and lived a life that reflected loyalty, protection, and dedication. He was a provider, a protector, and a steady presence to everyone blessed to know him.
He shared a beautiful life and love with his wife, Ardella S. Burgess, and together they built a foundation rooted in faith, family, and commitment. Their bond was one of partnership, respect, and enduring love.
Melvin leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Ardella S. Burgess of the home, his mother-in-law, Elnora Robinson of Caruthersville, MO, his children; four sons, Leon Green of New Madrid, MO, Vaughndell Green of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Melvin Gray of Marston, MO and J’Airus Burgess of Parma, MO, one daughter and son in-law, Jessica (James) Boyce of Charleston, MO, three bonus daughters, Briana Robinson, Sharay Rucker and Shabria Culler all of Caruthersville, MO, two sisters, Freda Hall of St. Louis, MO and Shay Bruessard of Atlanta, GA, one sister-in-law, Mary Lynn (Robert) Taylor of Lilbourn, MO, four brothers: James (Dorothy) Burgess of Middleburg, FL, James (Marcie) McKinney of Temperance, Michigan, Darryl McKinney of Muncie, Indiana and Jerome McKinney of Anderson, Indiana, one brother-in-law, Richie (Pam) Hubrins of Poplar Bluff, MO, 21 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and his friends and community who loved and respected him.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Bertha M. Kellum Burgess, his father, William (Po T.) McKinney Sr., his father-in-law, James H. Robinson, his maternal and paternal grandparents, his brothers, Patrick Burgess and William T. McKinney, Jr. , his grandson, Jau’Marcus McFarland and his nephew, Ernest L. McCullough.
Melvin’s legacy will live on through the lives he touched, the family he loved, and the memories that will forever remain in our hearts.
Though we grieve his physical absence, we rejoice knowing his love, lessons, and spirit will never leave us.
Friends may call Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. until the funeral hour 12:00 noon at Life Changers Life Center located at 320 Coleman Avenue in Lilbourn, Missouri with Apostle Earl Grissom officiating. Interment will follow in Simmons Park Cemetery in Catron, Missouri.
