Melvin Steward, Sr.

Melvin Lee Steward, Sr., was born on December 22, 1964 to the union of Edgar Lee, Jr. and Pearline Marshall in Sikeston, MO. He was the oldest of five siblings and was preceded in death by his father and both sets of parental grandparents.

Melvin confessed his faith in God in the early 1980’s at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Sikeston, MO under the leadership of Pastor Flem E. Bronner, Sr. As a member of St. John M.B. Church he served faithfully in the music department as the saxophone player. Until his death, he was a member of Ollie Grove M.B. Church in Wilson City, MO under the leadership of Pastor Sam Gibson.

Melvin graduated High School in 1984 and at that time he had already been employed by Lewis Bros. Bakeries of Sikeston for over a year. Melvin worked for Lewis Bakeries for over 15 years until moving on to other career desires.

On December 14, 2025 at the age of 60, Melvin bid this life adieu at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, MO.

He leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his life his special friend, Ms. Barbra Ivy of Sikeston, two children, Jessica D. (Jordan) Atkins of Wardsville, MO and Melvin L. Steward, Jr. of Colorado Springs, CO, four siblings, Maurice L. Steward of Sikeston, Earnest T. (Amiee) Marshall of Dexter, MO, Donna D. Marshall of Sikeston and Kenya L. Marshall, Sr. of Sikeston, seven grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and colleagues.

Friends may call Friday, November 21, 2025 at 12:00 noon until the funeral hour of 1:00 P.M. at Green Memorial Church of God in Christ in Sikeston, Missouri with Pastor Samuel Gibson of Ollie Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Wilson City, Missouri officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Sunset of Memories Cemetery with the Williams Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
