It is with deep sadness that the family of Deacon Ronald Carter announces his passing on April 25, 2026, at the age of 75. He passed away peacefully at home in New Madrid, Missouri, surrounded by his family.
Born on June 1, 1950, in Dyersburg, Tennessee, Ronald was the son of Rev. E.D. and Mrs. Frances Carter. He grew up in Dyersburg and graduated from Dyersburg High School. He went on to attend The University of Tennessee at Martin, where he pursued his studies before answering a greater call to serve his country and his community.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Deacon Ronald served his country with honor and distinction. During his time in service, he served as a Sargent TSGT and Lead NCOIC during the Vietnam War. His military service instilled in him a deep sense of duty, discipline, and patriotism that guided him throughout the rest of his life. He carried the pride of his service quietly but with great dignity.
After his time in the Air Force, Deacon Ronald devoted himself to his family and career at Goodyear Tire. He spent 25 years as a tire builder at Goodyear, earning the admiration of all who worked alongside him. Beyond his professional life, Deacon Ronald was known for his fisherman’s skills, his quiet strength, generous spirit, and steadfast integrity.
A man of deep and abiding faith, Deacon Ronald was a devoted member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in New Madrid, MO. He served his congregation with humility and dedication, faithfully fulfilling his role as a Deacon and servant to all. Whether he was leading others in worship, offering counsel to those in need, or simply showing up to serve wherever he was called, Deacon Ronald embodied the spirit of selfless ministry. His commitment to God and his church community was not merely a duty — it was the cornerstone of who he was.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and uncle who cherished every moment with his family. Deacon Ronald is survived by his wife, Mrs. Gloria Carter; daughter, Francene (Carter) Lewis (Dexter); step daughter, Ruby Hollimon; step sons, Willie Robinson, Jr., Kevin L. Robinson, and Kenneth D. Robinson; granddaughters, Andrea Hardyway, Karissa J. Robinson and Shakyra Robinson; grandsons, D’Andre and T’ Andre Hardyway, Keyion M. Smith, Blake Copeland, Kevin Robinson, Jr., and Isiah Robinson; sister, Janice (Carter) Bethel; nieces, Mishandra Bethel; Nicolette (Bethel) Thomas (Rory), and Traci (Bethel) Head (David). He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. E.D. Carter and mother, Mrs. Frances Carter; and step daughter Shonnel Shepard.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026, with visitation at 10:00 A.M. and service at 11:00 A.M. at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, located at 315 Missouri Ave in New Madrid, MO 63869. A graveside memorial service will be held following the celebration of life at 2:30 P.M. at Memorial Park Cemetery, 1920 Cumberland Street, Dyersburg, TN 38024. Deacon Ronald leaves behind a legacy of service to his God, his country, and his family. He will be forever in our hearts.
