Willie George Brooks was born September 19th, 1944, in Choctaw, Alabama, to Joseph Brooks and Eva Edna O’Field Brooks.
He attended Choctaw County School and graduated. He received Christ at an early age and was baptized at John the Baptist Church in Choctaw County, Alabama.
After leaving Alabama, he moved to New York, where he found employment. Later, he moved to Detroit, MI. He was employed there by Rod Wire and Cable Company, and later worked in construction. While in Michigan, he became a member at True Rock M.B. Church, where he was on the usher board. This is also where he met his now wife, Ruby Stewart Brooks. They were later married on December 9th, 1969. They shared 56 years of holy matrimony.
In 1974, Willie George moved his family to New Madrid, MO. He then found employment at the New Madrid Saw Mill. Soon after, he was employed at Noranda Aluminum Co and retired from there after 30 plus years. He joined Mt. Olive M.B. Church in New Madrid, where he later became a choir member and then in 1984, he was crowned deacon and became a faithful and active member. He was a great husband and father and loved his family.
On the afternoon of Sunday, May 10th, 2026, he departed this life peacefully, surrounded by his loving family.
He was preceded by death by his parents: Joseph and Eva Brooks, one sister, Johnnie Mae Brooks, five brothers, Jessie William Brooks, Lee James Brooks, Willie Ed Brooks, Job Brooks, and David Brooks, and one son, Eric Rey Brooks.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Ruby Brooks, three sons, James (Sabine) Brooks of Stuggart, Germany, Joseph (Trina) Brooks of New Madrid, MO and Gerald (Chiquita) Stewart of Decatur, IL, three daughters, Patricia McDaniel, Janice (Jerry) Yancy and Diana Bell all of New Madrid, MO, one brother, Cesar (Georgia) Brooks of Yantley, AL, two sisters, Edna Fox of Yantley, AL and Theresa (Paul) Fanning of Woonsocket, RI, 26 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, his pastor, fellow deacons and friends.
Friends may call Sunday, May 17, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. until the funeral hour of 12:00 noon at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in New Madrid, Missouri with Pastor Robert Anderson officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Evergreen Cemetery in New Madrid with the Williams Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
